Two scientists walk into a bar…
What sounds like the beginning of a rather bad joke is actually a fun program created by the Fleet Science Center in San Diego that LabX brought to DC on October 11th! During Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar®, local scientists enjoyed something we all appreciate: a good conversation in a local bar. Participants joined them, and asked them anything they wanted! The scientists were easy to spot – you could just look for the sign that read: “We are scientists. Ask us anything!”
Our first Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar® event took place October 11 in five locations around the city:
Bar | Time | Science Fields |
Capital Cider House | 4:30 – 6:30 | Environmental Science/Water Resource Management, Chemical Engineering/Materials Science |
3 Stars Brewing | 6:00 – 8:00 | Cancer Research, Physics/Engineering/Earth Science |
Cotton & Reed | 6:00 – 8:00 | Neuroscience, Ecology/Evolutionary Biology |
Royal Bar & Kitchen | 7:00 – 9:00 | Inorganic Chemistry, Infectious Disease/Epidemiology |
Smith Public Trust | 7:30 – 9:30 | Chemical Physics, Plant Genetics/Food and Ag Policy |
No tickets or registration was required. You could just show up, grab a drink, and ask a scientist! Read more about the event in articles from the Washington Post and the San Diego City Beat.
We’d love to hear about the questions you asked and see photos of the fun, so please share your experience using #2scientists on social media and don’t forget to tag @labxNAS!
